Overview of Organization Capability Assessment & Alignment MethodWhat is an Organization Capability Assessment? This assessment is a process for assisting organizations to examine what collective abilities they need to successfully execute their strategy. To make better decisions and execute your strategy well, you need to know what your organization must do collectively to win. This assessment provides this information plus a structure to implement planned change. How is this process typically used in businesses and organizations? Typical first steps include a leadership meeting to understand the process and determine a first cut view of what capabilities are needed to realize the vision or organization goals. Often, leadership gets the entire organization involved to uncover how well the organization is doing against these critical capabilities once they are determined. Then, with this data, the organization can prioritize action items targeted at closing any capability gaps, which will result in the successful execution of the business strategy. Why do organizations conduct this assessment? Successful organizations transform initiatives and generic processes into specific capabilities linked directly to strategy. This process gives organizations a very rational and flexible way of managing change because it provides a road map for continual change - in all elements of the organization. By using this process, the business will have a road map for how it will successfully achieve its vision. Who is involved in this assessment? The entire organization is often included in giving input to defining the capabilities most critical to the business strategy and to rate today's performance against those capabilities. In addition, the assessing organization might include the people and departments it interacts with on a daily basis for example: sales teams, services people, engineers etc. So these “internal customers” also have an opportunity to provide their perspective of where performance is today and how the organization can best serve them going forward. What is needed from the organization?
